After so many celebrations prior to Colton's actual April 10th birthday, it was hard to believe we hadn't even had his real birthday yet! Monday, April 10th, was very low-key, with Mommy having lots of chores to do after a busy weekend. Colton had fun having a quiet day at home playing with his new birthday toys, and then some Mommy-Colton playtime after Larkyn went down for her nap. After Daddy got home, we had dinner (his choice of macaroni and cheese) along with our traditional birthday donuts. Then, we opened presents from mom and dad, from Summer, and from my grandma and aunt/uncle who live in Chicago and were so sweet to send presents! Here are a few pictures and videos to document our day:
Breakfast included special pop tarts, which mommy only buys for birthdays :)
After biking on his NEW bike to school (which he says is a LOT faster ;)!...
He set up his new road tape...
drove his new cars...
and finished building his entire lego set (a super cool truck and trailer with 4-wheelers)...
in his newly decorated Lightning McQueen room!
We made tortilla pizzas for lunch...
with FIVE pepperoni's :)
We read his new paw patrol book during lunch.
When Larkyn went down for her nap, Colton and I did our Bible reading together. I want to include a short blurb here, as I am so in love with this little boy's heart. Despite the fact that he LOVES to be silly and will be as crazy as needed to get a laugh, he has such a deep desire to learn about God's Word, ask questions, and know as much as he can. Our church normally gives kids their first Bible as they enter kindergarten in September, but after reading all of his "kids'" Bibles multiple times (he devoured the one I gave him for his spiritual birthday in February in less than a week, reading for up to an hour at a time with me and begging for more when I told him I needed to stop!), he has been asking more in depth questions about how he can know what the Bible says about how he should live. I asked our Children's Ministry Director if we could possibly have Colton's NIrV (New International Readers Version) Bible early, and she quickly said yes! He got his Bible several weeks ago, and I am in love with his passion for reading God's Word! He literally wants to bring it everywhere - asking me to read it to him on the light rail going to Daddy's work, at gymnastics waiting for Summer, and continuously expressing excitement for reading, searching in, and discovering God's Word. His hunger for it has not waned, and he wants to look up the verses all on his own. Because his reading is not quite at the level where he can read it on his own, I still read it to him, but he is recognizing the books of the Bible and how to find them, and even sat for 15 minutes listening to a books of the Bible song on repeat on my phone trying to get the order down. Gosh, I love that kid! Anyway, I wanted to include a video of him looking up his Bible passage from his devotional book all on his own, because, even though he is very slow at it, he is learning to do it all by himself...and that is the most exciting skill (for me) that he could possibly learn at age 5! Without further ado, here is a video of him and his much loved new Bible from our Bible time together on his birthday...
After reading Colton's Bible together, we had Mommy-Colton time playing Paw Patrol.
He biked his new bike back to school to pick up Summer...
And then headed to pick out birthday donuts!
He helped make his delicious dinner of mac n cheese, berries, and carrot sticks...
and then we enjoyed our donuts!
As usual, I video each kid opening presents - just so I can relive each birthday! Here is the unedited family gift opening session. I just love his grateful heart and how he excitedly loves each thing he opens, making the gift giver feel so good. He is such a sweetheart. Here are the series of videos (mainly for me to document his voice and mannerisms, but feel free to watch!):
After gift opening, we played with his new gear set. One thing about
Colton at age 5 is that he LOVES learning how things work and anything
with gears. His gear set has already become a favorite toy!
Three celebrations down (friends, extended family, family) and one more to go. I will post next about our Mommy-Colton birthday date, which is always a favorite part of birthdays for Mommy and kiddo alike!
