Larkyn - 8 weeks

Larkyn was 8 weeks old yesterday, and while the time has flown, she is so much a part of our family that it is hard to remember life before her :).  She is SUCH a blessing in our family - I love her cuddles and am trying so hard to just cherish EACH moment!  Over the last week or two she has just started to smile "real" smiles.  It has been tricky to capture a picture though!  One day while the two "bigs" were playing I had some special cuddle moments with just Larkyn and captured quite a few of her smiles.  I just LOVE her little dimple!

Larkyn continues to be easily soothed and loves to be held.  Her favorite position is sitting up, flopped over my hand like a rag doll ;).  I can easily keep her from crying during church or anytime by little bounces or by light taps on her back in her favorite position.  She prefers the Bumbo to the swing if she is awake, but above all loves being carried in the Baby Bjorn and will always fall right asleep!

She is doing amazing sleeping at night, and last week after we went to the fair was her first 8 hour stretch!  She has slept 8 hours in a row 4 out of the last 5 nights, which means (since we put her down at 8pm each night) I only need to get up once to feed her around 4am.  AMAZING!  She usually sleeps until 7am.

She is also doing great at sleeping in her crib at night.  About a week ago we started a bit of sleep training at night, and now she will go to sleep on her own in her crib each night without multiple trips in to sooth or rock her.  She is incredibly flexible on her feedings during the day, which makes it so easy for the kids and I to get out and go places!  In the morning she will generally want to eat every 3-5 hours, but is quite flexible on timing, which means I can feed her in that window whenever it is a convenient time for the kids to be occupied doing something else.  She will often have a bit of a fussy/awake time right over the kids nap/quiet time (3:30-4pm)  in the afternoon and then take a long nap over our dinner (5-6:30pm).

She is weening herself off of her pacifier, and rarely will take it anymore!  We still keep them around for certain moments, but she now will go a full day without ever taking it.

Her neck is quite strong and during tummy time she can raise her head quite high for a while to watch what big brother and big sister are doing ;)

She is growing quite a bit and chunking up ;).  She has nice chubby cheeks and rolls on her thighs!  While she still wears size NB clothes, a few of her smaller NB onesies won't snap at the bottom anymore!  We have bumped her up officially to size 1 diapers, although they are still a bit big on her, they do contain the poop explosions a bit better than the NB diapers :).  She will go in next week for her official 2 month weigh in, and I am excited to see what she will be!

While a tiny bit of me is sad my baby getting bigger, I am constantly reminded how each day is more fun with her, and I am looking forward to all the fun developmental milestones she has coming her way!  Until then, however, I will enjoy the cuddles and relish the moment.  We love you Larkyn Emery!

Cabin Weekend

Larkyn took her first road trip to Wisconsin this past weekend!  We stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Kirkwood at their cabin for an extended weekend along with Auntie Kristin and Uncle Eric.  Even though the weather was pretty cloudy, we had so much fun hanging out, chatting, playing games, and doing all sorts of fun things!  I was so blessed by all the love showered upon us and our kiddos!  It was such a gift to be able to sleep/nap more with so much help as well as even sneak in a date with my hubby for a bike ride and a date with my dad for a nice long run knowing our kiddos were well taken care of :).  Here are a few pics...

Paul and Eric took the ATV's out!

Summer swam out to the swim raft for the first time!  (With her floaties and Uncle Eric!)

Auntie Kristin learned Larkyn's favorite position to sleep :)

Love this sister shot :)

Wahooo!

I'm so proud of how Summer is not at all afraid to get her own worms and hold her fish!  She TRULY loves fishing with Daddy and it is so fun to watch them!  She caught 12+ fish this weekend!

Grandpa read LOTS of books!
We had such a fun and relaxing weekend!  Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for hosting us all, for all the great food and fun family time.  WE LOVE YOU!

State Fair

Paul took off work on Thursday for the first day of the State Fair!  Here are a few pics...

Larkyn's first state fair!

We brought the double jogger for the bigs  and the single jogger for Larkyn and it worked perfectly!  Glad we have a minivan so we can fit the strollers ;)

We started the day at the Little Farm Hands, where there are many interactive exhibits for kids to walk through how food gets to our grocery stores.

Summer "planting" her seed

We watched two shows, including a pet trick show and the lumberjack show.  The kids were cute getting autographs at the end of the show!

While Mommy fed Larkyn, the kids each got to go on 4 rides.

Of course we HAD to get a bucket of Sweet Martha's cookies!

Larkyn did great the whole day, but at the end just wanted to be carried, so Daddy carried her and pushed her stroller.  Love this pic!

Colton cat napped for about 10 minutes ;)

Summer pretended to nap with her brother!
We always look forward to the State Fair each year, and I love the family time we got going all together!

SIbling Love and Cuddles

I am just loving watching my older two love on their little sister.  She is like a little magnet that they both are drawn to, and from the moment they wake up in the morning, they want to look at her, play with her, and talk to her!  I often hear, "Can I see Larkyn?" "Can you turn Larkyn so she faces me?"  "Can I hold Larkyn?" "Where is Larkyn?" "Turn her face so she looks at me!" If Larkyn cries for even a minute, both kids run to put her pacifier in, bring her toys, rock her swing, or just go talk to her...and she responds to them!  So far Colton consistently gets the biggest smiles out of Larkyn - I'm not sure what he does...its nothing really...just him being his goofy self :).  Summer truly has a way with Larkyn, and even when she fussy, Summer can help calm her down just by holding her.  So sweet.  These pictures capture what happens most every morning as we get ready for the day...I just want to cherish these moments!

Love the sister profile shot!

Colton "playing" with Larkyn by lining up his cars next to her.  He loves to kick the ball for her - one morning he set the ball by her wiggling feet and said, "good try" when she almost kicked it!  I couldn't help smiling!

Love these three cuddle bugs!

Raspberry picking

We went raspberry picking with the Apple Valley Mom's Club this morning.  We brought home two pints and also ate quite a few!  Mmmmmmmm!  So delicious!!!  Colton was my star - picker and picked the entire time (and probably would have kept going!).  Summer was quite nervous of all the bees that swarmed around the bushes, so after picking a few, decided she would rather wait on the path and just taste the ones we picked!  Larkyn slept the whole time in the Baby Bjorn.
